In the context of [[Lorica]] equipment, a '''shield''' is a piece of equipable additional armour, usually mounted to either a handheld item hardpoint, specialty additional handpoints on the "wrist" of the manipulator unit of the vehicle in question, or, rarely, over a shoulder hardpoint in similar fashion.

When combined with the appropriate piloting technique and vehicle coroutines, such a shield can be used in like fashion to its infantry namesake, as additional armour used under direction against incoming attacks. While shields usually contain thicker armour (and sometimes additional advantages such as reactive cladding or design advantages) than baseline Lorica armour, this still results in the arm to which the shield is attached taking the brunt of the incoming attack.
