Oceanic Econo-Political Union
The Oceanic Econo-Political Union is a current faction of the Terran Hegemony, and a pre-World War Three supranational federation consisting of several Pacific Ocean polities including those of Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Polynesia, Java, the Phillipines, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, the Korean Penninsula, and so on. As a realpolitikal and economic power, the OEPU were a major influence on the pre-war world, established in part to counter the increasingly radical positions of the Eurasian Soviet and what would ultimately become the Free Market Block, similar to the formation of the African Confederation, United States of Western Europe, and the South Asian Free States. They were initially founded by an accession agreement between Australia and Japan in 1998 just a few short years after Australia became a republic. The OEPU was a key player in both the years leading up to the Third World War and the war itself, in part because of Project Lorica, which lead to the creation of the Lorica fighting vehicle paradigm.
People living within the OEPU tended to recognize the OEPU without giving up their essential national identities from before the formation of the union, retaining pre-unification demonyms. The largest changes were military and economic - while the OEPU had a federal parliament, that parliament was chiefly concerned with establishing the Oceanic Union Defence Force and opening and coordinating trade among the nations that made up the union, though there were other federal agencies, like the Oceania Intelligence Unit and the Special Research Force.
While the OEPU had outsize impact given their invention of Lorica, they were not a long-lived political entity, becoming absorbed by the Western Sphere Hegemony in the falling action and aftermath of the Third World War, of which they remained a province even after the collapse of the Eurasian Soviet and the accession of the former soviet territories into the Terran Hegemony. Some organizations, such as the Special Research Force and various trade organizations and private corporations, which were traditionally associated with the OEPU survived even after the Three Spheres Treaty era.
